W790 chipset for workstations based on Sapphire Rapids-X chips found on Intel website

The delay in the market launch of Intel’s Sapphire Rapids family of server processors is likely to delay the release of Sapphire Rapids-X processors for workstations, but on the Intel website you can already find a mention of the W790 system logic set, which can become their main companion. The developer emphasizes that the Intel W790 is a chipset for workstations.

Nomenclature Intel W790 belongs to the list of system logic sets of the 600th family, in the table on the company’s website it is adjacent to the Intel W680 chipset and even has the serial version marking – SRL02, which makes it similar to its predecessor (SRL00). It’s not a fact that the Intel W790 will have time to debut before the end of this year, but the appearance of mentions of it on the developer’s website at least inspires confidence that Cascade Lake-X processors will still have successors.
